Udupi, Aug 27: ‘World Photography Day’ was celebrated with an exhibition of photos and a programme was organized by Udupi District Working Journalists’ Association at the Press Club, Brahmagiri, on Wednesday August 26.
Yashpal Suvarna, president, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada District Fish Marketing Federation inaugurated the event and said, “Media is creating awareness among the public and also contributing to future generations.”
Senior journalist and eminent critic A Ishwaraiah, speaking after receiving the honour, said, “The whole thought (structure) of journalism is being commercialized. Now, the ‘live and let live’ statement has been changed to ‘live, let him die’.”
He also said that all the entire human values are lost. “Credibility and accuracy are the two important aspects of newspapers. A photographer has a great social responsibility and he must know about utilization of cameras by in mind human interest. Nowadays, readers want negative points in news rather than positive. A photographer has to develop positive approach towards news and he has the responsibility of building a good society. Moreover, he can touch an emotional chord.”
Ishwaraiah said that the media is the strongest tool and is an art too. An interaction programme was held with Ganpati Bhat.
Association president Jayakar Suvarna gave the keynote address. District Information Department officer Rohini was present as chief guest.
Secretary Ganesh Prasad Pandelu welcomed the gathering and convener Chethan Padubidre delivered the vote of thanks. All association members were present on the occasion.
