Udupi, Jun 21: Correspondent of Milagres Institutions and parish priest of Kallianpur Fr Marcel Saldhana stressed on the role played by women in the betterment of society at programme held to distribute sewing machines to women here on Wednesday June 20.

Fr Saldhana said that whatever the training maybe whether tailoring or fashion designing or creative writing the motto should be to empower women through such trainings.

He distributed 16 sewing machines to the women undergoing training in Milagres College here. The sewing machines were provided by the state industries and commerce department.

Principal of the college Fr Fred Mascarenhas presided over the function and said that the college has been conducting a 10-month course on ‘Women Empowerment’ for the past three years. He also said that the university has granted recognition to the training and will award certificates to the students from this academic year onwards.
