Udupi, Aug 26: Members of the All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) staged a protest in front of the tahsildar’s office in Bannanje on Tuesday August 25 demanding immediate issue of RTC for the homeless.
AIAWU leader K Shankar demanded that the list of homeless families be scrutinized and the process of marking government land be finalized.
“The government has to take up immediate measures to issue RTC for all homeless. There are 3, 827 applicants from 29 villages of Kaup constituency, 1,645 applicants from 18 villages of Udupi constituency and 2,461 applicants from town. In all 7, 933 applications are still awaiting a decision. If the government is facing lack of land, they have to purchase private land for the homeless,” he added.
He also alleged that the assistant commissioner had been sanctioned 1.90 acre of land two years ago in Puttur village but the CMC was delaying the legal process of distribution.
He said that in order to clear the 687.73 acre of government land acquisition was on in Kaup Hobli.
If they refuse to distribute the RTC, the committee will hold protests in front of the homes of elected representatives.
AIAWU district president H Vittal Poojary, secretary K Laxman, treasurer Umesh Kundar and Kaviraj were present.
