Berlin, Aug 21 (IANS): Bayer Leverkusen's new arrival Charles Aranguiz will be sidelined for a prolonged period after suffering an Achilles tendon rupture, the German football club confirmed in an official statement on Friday.
Offensive midfielder Aranguizwho, who joined the German outfit from Brazilian side Internacional eight days ago, sustained an Achilles tendon rupture in his left foot during a training session on Thursday, reports Xinhua.
According to the statement on Leverkusen's official homepage, the club assumes that Aranguiz will be sidelined for "many months". The new arrival will undergo surgery on Tuesday in Basel, Switzerland.
"We are all very concerned, and of course we suffer with him. Charles was really looking forward to his first Bundesliga appearance in Hannover. We will do everything to ensure that Charles can return to the pitch as soon as possible after this serious injury," Leverkusen's sporting director Rudi Voeller said.
Leverkusen face Hannover in a second round match in Bundesliga on Saturday.
