Mangaluru, Aug 20: ‘Konkani Manyata Divas’ at Lourdes Central School, Bejai, Mangaluru was celebrated on August 20 with great enthusiasm.
The programme began with a prayer song sung by the Konkani learning students. Frazel Fernandes of class 7 welcomed the gathering. Anifred Fernandes of class 8 highlighted the importance of the day.
The function was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by the manager of Lourdes Central School Fr Wilson L Vitus D’Souza, principal Fr Robert D’Souza vice principal Belita Mascarenhas, Konkani Sir Ivan Mascarenhas and two other students.
The president of the function Fr Wilson L Vitus D’Souza greeted all the students on the occasion of Konkani Manyata Day and enthralled the audience with a melodious Konkani song ‘ Muji Bhas Konkani, Mujo Swas Konkan’. He also wished success to all the students studying Konkani as their third language.
The principal Fr Robert D’Souza spoke on the occasion saying Konkani is alive today because of the impact of church ceremonies conducted in Konkani and students learning Konkani in school. He also asked the students to keep our Konkani culture alive by giving due importance to Konkani.
Over 85 students learning Konkani in class 6, 7 and 8 were present for the function. Konkani quiz competition was conducted on account of Manyata Day and the manager and principal gave away the prizes to the students. A melodious Konkani group song, a group dance, duet dance and a Konkani solo was performed by the Konkani learning students as a part of the cultural programme.
It was a great day for all the Konkani learning students at Lourdes Central School as they won prizes and were delighted with a sumptuous treat. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Rolwin Pinto of Class 7. The programme was compered by Summit Colaco of class 8 under the guidance of Konkani Sir Ivan Mascarenhas.
