Udupi, Aug 11: District in-charge minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake, appreciated the fact that more and more sports events are being held agricultural fields in rural areas. He also hailed South Kanara Photographers Association (SKPA) members for organizing a sports meet for themselves in spite of being very busy in keeping others happy all through the year.
He was speaking after inaugurating the district level annual sports meet titled, 'Kesarda Gobbulu', held under the aegis of Kaup regional unit of SKPA near the Kambala field of Katapadi on Sunday August 9. SKPA's Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district units are celebrating silver jubilee this year.
Former MLA, Lalaji R Mendon, entrepreneur-cum-social activist, Suresh Shetty Gurme, Katapadibeedu Mahabala Ballal, Katapadi gram panchayat president, Juliet Veera D'Souza, Belapu gram panchayat president, Dr Deviprasad Shetty, K Leeladhar Shetty, and SKPA convener, Vittal Chowta, participated as guests.
On this occasion, Mumbai customs assistant commissioner, Yermal Rohith Hegde, and 'Aryabhata' award -winning entrepreneur, K Manohar Shetty, were felicitated. President of Katapadi Bunts Sangha, Vinay Ballal, lit the sports torch.
SKPA central committee office bearers, Padmaprasad Jain, Karunakar Gowda, Jagannath Shetty, Anand Bantwal, Madhu Mangaluru, Wilson Gonsalves, Nagesh Kota, Gopal Sullia, Kaup region honorary president, Bhaktaprasad, secretary, Santosh Naik, sports supervisor, Praveen Kurkalu, sports secretary, Uday Mundkoor, and other office bearers were present.
Over 1,500 photographers from the twin districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada took active part in the annual sports meet, 'Kesarda Gobbulu' held in a wet and sticky agricultural field.
SKPA district president, K Vasudeva Rao, who presided over the inaugural, welcomed everyone apart from delivering introductory address. Kaup region president, Pramod Suvarna Shankarpura, proposed vote of thanks. Satishchandra Shetty Chitrapadi presented the programme.
