Mangaluru, Jul 18: "Everywhere farmers are committing suicide in the country. 15 farmers n Maharashtra and 5 to 10 farmers are dying each day in Karnataka. Till now 3,61,000 farmers have committed suicde in the country and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not opening his mouth. Narendra Modi has become 'Mounendra Modi'," said Former union minister and Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary.
A press meet was organised on Saturday, July 18 at the district Congress Office, Mangaluru, where Poojary showed his concern over the farmers and blamed Modi for not doing anything.
"What has happened to him (Modi)? So many farmers have died and and not even a single word has come from Modi. Modi has time to give long speeches but he has not called a cabinet meeting to solve the problems of farmers. Chaiwala today is fighting for the five star hotel businessmen. He is giving butter to the capitalists and only 'Sunna'(limestone) for the farmers. Crores of rupees he has given to the corporates, but has not given even basic facilities to the poor and farmers." Poojary said.
"Farmers are burdened with lot of loans and what kind of facilities has he planned to give to the poor? Why cannot you see the bodies falling down? Today the banks are not giving loans to the farmers and the farmers go to the money lenders for loan. The money lenders charge higher interest. What is the Reserve Bank of India doing? What the finance ministry is doing? Some banks that give loan to the farmers are sucking their blood. Modi goes abroad and gives speeches. That is to help the big businessmen financially. What is there for the poor?" Poojary added.
"When Congress party was in center, the policy of the party was looking public and private sector equally and first preference was always for the public sector. And today the Modi government is selling the public sector to the private sectors. God will never like this," he continued.
Speaking about the India-Pakistan border clash, Poojary said, "In the borders our soldiers are being killed and Modi had said that he would make India a strong country. Modi is acting like blind even if he has eyes to see what is happening. The Pakistan flags are flying In Jammu and Kashmirand Modi cannot see that. When Congress party was in power at the central, foreign countries were coming to India for help and now it is the opposite. Farmers are struggling and Modi is not opening his mouth with maintaining a dangerous silence."
Poojary also challenged Modi to come out and speak in front of the media if he had courage.
"There is no purchasing power in our country. Our economy is falling. What has happened to the real estate business? Are you waiting for everyone to commit suicide?" he asked.
"Modi should have given the finance to the farmers instead to the corporates. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has spoken about the farmers. Do not become like Modi. Sit and think. All the MPs, MLAs from all the parties along with the CM Siddaramaiah should go and talk to Modi. Everyone must raise their voices for the farmers in the parliament. If you know what is humanity then you will understand what is happening right now." Poojary concluded.
T K Sudheer, Suresh Ballal, Harikrishna Bantwal and others were also present on this occasion.
