Kundapur, Jul 15: The Byndoor police on Wednesday July 15 rescued 19 buffaloes that were crammed into a truck near a petrol bunk at Navunda near Byndoor here.
The accused, identified as Jaleel and his accomplices managed to escape from the spot. The police are searching for them, it is learnt.
It is learnt that the buffaloes were about to be transported to Kerala from Jaleel's house located near the petrol bunk near Navunda. The limbs and necks of the buffalos were tied with ropes and they were hoisted into the truck and crammed in an inhuman way, sources said. The police, on receiving authentic information about this, raided the spot at around 5 am and rescued the animals.
The accused who noticed the police managed to escape as it was still dark.
Byndoor circle inspector Sudarshan and his team rescued buffaloes approximately worth Rs 8 lac and brought them to the police station where they were fed water and fodder.
Police sources said that the buffaloes were being taken to a slaughterhouse in Kerala.
Byndoor police have registered a case.
