Kundapur, Jul 14: In an incident which occurred at Koteshwar near here on Monday July 13 afternoon, three young men, who approached a minor student who was waiting at the bus stop to go home after college hours, teased her, behaved indecently, and handed over their telephone numbers to her with directions to call them over phones. Out of these three, the policemen here succeeded in arresting two based on a complaint filed with them, while the other accused succeeded in evading arrest. All the three accused belong to a religion that is different from that of the victim.
Both Safan (19) and Suhail (19) from Gulvady village near here have been arrested and booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Police personnel are making effort to find the whereabouts of the other accused, Shaffi (20), who fled during the operation. All the three accused happen to be students, it has transpired.
The minor victim, a first PU student living in a village near Koteshwar, was waiting for bus after college hours at Koteshwar bus stand on Monday afternoon, when the above three youngsters came near here. Besides behaving with her in a lewd manner, they handed over a slip containing their mobile phone numbers, duly instructing her to call them, it is said. The girl was taken aback, and informed some locals. The locals immediately gathered around and thrashed all the three. Shaffi somehow succeeded in escaping in the melee. As soon as they got information, personnel from the police station here rushed to the spot and took into custody Safan and Suhail. Efforts are now being made to arrest the third accused.
It is said that these three boys had been trailing the girl since some days, and were teasing her and passing remarks which were not in good taste. The girl had informed her family members about this ordeal, and on Monday, overtaken by a sense of apprehension because of the unacceptable behaviour of these young students, she filed police complaint.
The arrested persons were produced in court after conducting medical tests.
