Udupi, Jul 13: Adrenaline ran high as hundreds of men, women and children tested their skills at the 10th annual slush field sports organized by Sarvajanika Sri Ganeshotsava Samiti at Joduraste fields, Alevoor here on Sunday July 12.

The star attraction of the day was Sandalwood star and son of the soil Rakshit Shetty of 'Ulidavaru Kandanthe' fame, who not only participated in the formal function but also got into the field and thoroughly enjoyed playing in the slush.

The day began with the formal inauguration by district incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake. Rakshit Shetty inaugurated a selfie photography competition by taking his selfie.

Addressing the gathering, Sorake said, "Rural sports in agricultural fields are fading away of late and there is a need to revive them. The Alevoor Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava is doing a wonderful job in this direction. There is a healing power in mud and those who engage in agricultural activities are usually healthy."

Rakshit Shetty recalled his early days playing in the same field and said, "My grandmother's house is here. I used to come here during childhood with my father and I learnt to operate tractor and tiller. Now I have a busy schedule but I enjoy coming here. Some scenes in 'Ulidavaru Kandanthe' were shot here. I just love this place."

Rakshit then joined the others on the slush field and took a buffalo around and even did the traditional tiger dance.

Sports like running race, walking backwars, sack race, tug-of-war and many others were held, all of which saw enthusiastic participation from one and all.
