Rio de Janeiro, July 9 (IANS): Paolo Guerrero scored a goal and set up another as his new football club Flamengo defeated Internacional 2-1 in Brazil's Serie A championship.
Making his debut for the Rio de Janeiro club, the Peru international on Wednesday needed just 10 minutes to open his account, netting from close range after Hector Canteros' headed assist.
Guerrero then provided the pass for Everton's 66th-minute strike before Ernando pulled a goal back for the hosts in injury time.
The result at the Beira-Rio stadium in Porto Alegre lifted Flamengo to 13th in the standings while International slipped to 16th.
In other matches on Wednesday, Chapecoense overcame Gremio 1-0, Goais routed Santos 4-1, Ponte Preta held Coritiba 0-0, Joinville won 2-0 at Figueirense, Palmerias accounted for Avai 3-1, Atletico Mineiro beat Sport 2-1 and Sao Paulo won 4-0 at Vasco da Gama.
