Kundapur, Jul 9: The locals at Hunsemakki near Bidkalkatte here thrashed two persons for allegedly trying to steal cattle. The incident took place on Wednesday July 8.
Iqbal (38) and Hussain (40), both from Suratkal near Mangaluru, came by bike and were allegedly trying to steal cattle when they were caught by the locals and beaten up.
It is said that Iqbal and Hussain, who were strangers to the area, came by a Pulsar bike and began to tether four cows to a tree. The locals who grew suspicious about them started questioning the duo, who not only answered incoherently but also tried to escape, sources said. The locals then caught them and beat them up.
Kota police on receiving information about the incident rushed to the spot and took the duo to the police station, and later admitted them to a hospital in Kundapur.
Among the two accused, Iqbal's condition is said to be serious. Both were later shifted to Wenlock hospital in Mangaluru.
The police also took into custody the four cows which the accused had tied to the tree, and so also their Pulsar bike. The cows were handed over to the 'goshala'.
Kota police are investigating further.
