Kundapur, Jul 8: Thieves forced opened the shutters of three shops on the first floor of Vigneshwara Complex in Hemmady near the NH 66 in Kundapur taluk late at night on Monday July 6 and decamped with goods worth several lacs of rupees. Then incident came to light on Tuesday July 7.
Thieves targeted Amba Appliances, Sunshine Electricals, and Vinaya Digital Studio in the building complex situated at Hemmady and took away valuables estimated to be worth Rs 10 lac.
The items stolen from Amba Home Appliances include more than 25 mixies, 2 LEDs, TVs, V Guard stabilizer and other household appliances. Wires and switch boards were taken from Sunshine Electricals and cash as from Vinay Digital Studio.
The shutters of the three shops were found to be half-open on Tuesday morning. The shopkeepers informed the police after coming to know of the thefts.
Mobile phones worth several lacs were stolen near Koteshwar highway last week. With the recent spate of thefts, locals have become anxious.
It is said that the CCTV camera outside a shop on the ground floor at Vigneshwara Complex has captured images of three men and an Eicher vehicle and the thefts are thought to have occurred between 1.45 am and 3 am.
Thefts have taken place in several places in Udupi and Kundapur taluk during the last one year. The police have obtained clues from the thefts of mobiles at Koteshwar last week and the theft at Barkur Kalikamba temple and these thefts and spread a
net for the suspects.
Kundapur DySP Manjunath Shetty, DCIB inspector Jaishankar, and SI Nasir Hussain visited the place and conducted an investigation. The canine squad and forensic experts also arrived.
A case has been registered in Kundapur police station.
