Udupi, Jul 7: It is alleged that Guddecchi resident Putta alias Mahindra, a youth who has won the recent grama panchayat elections has together with his brother Mayoora and brother-in-law Dayananda launched a deadly attack on a jeweler on Sunday late night and fled.

Sathish Acharya, organizing secretary of Vishwa Brahmana Yuvaka Sangha and the owner of a jewellery shop on Padubidri market road was returning home after participating in a programme at Katpadi. Meanwhile Mahindra along with his relatives blocked Sathish Acharya's car near Padubidri Guddechi. They pulled Sathish from the car and attacked him with dagger. When he resisted,they kicked him, pulled out the ornament worn by him and threw it. Sathish with serious injuries on his head was admitted to a private hospital in Padubidri.
The women who came out after hearing screams when Sathish was being inhumanly assaulted, pleaded with Putta and the group to leave him but they continued to beat him and the local people were made helpless spectators.
It is said that there was property dispute between Sathish and Mahindra. As Sathish Acharya had openly supported Seetharam, a BJP candidate in the recent Panchayat elections, Mahindra was revengeful.He assaulted Sathish Acharya due to the revenge, it is said.
Mahindra alias Putta is said to be involved in many cases and people say he has been acting like a rowdy in the area which has caused anxiety among local people.
Sathish Acharya was brought to the private hospital soon after the gruesome assault and the relatives of the victim requested the hospital staff to intimate the police. The staff who gave evasive answers said that the staffs are coming next day morning and it was not possible to intimate the police without their arrival.
Even a doctor at the hospital said that he did not need to admit the patient and he could be taken to government hospital.
A police case has been registered at Padubidri police station and the investigations have begun.
