BSNL to connect gram panchayats in DK, Udupi; extend Wi-Fi to airport

Mangaluru, Jul 6: BSNL Dakshina Kannada will provide Wi-Fi coverage with multiple hotspots in select important locations. Mangaluru International Airport will also be extended this facility, said G R Ravi, general manager of BSNL, at a press meet here on Monday July 6.

He also informed that BSNL 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot will allow users ultra speed broadband internet connectivity.

He further said, "In order to mark Digital India Week, a government of India undertaking, BSNL has launched various schemes like the NOFN (National Optical Fibre Network). BSNL Dakshina Kannada telecom district is connecting all the 349 gram panchayats on optical fiber in the current year.

"Approximately 470 kilometers of fiber and connecting equipment are being installed under this project. This will provide sufficient bandwidth to the gram panchayats in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district," he added.

"This will facilitate the Digital India programme of the government of India in providing the appropriate infrastructure to the rural areas in order to extend the BSNL services using information technology and its tools, thus breaking the digital divide," he said.


Next Generation Network

BSNL DK has planned to install Next Generation Network exchanges at 8 locations in Baikampady, Suratkal, Urwa, Kodikal, Manipal, Udupi, Ajjarkad and Brahmavar. This work will be completed within one year.

Next Generation Network will greatly enhance the features of the landline network using IP switching and thus enabling all types of services like voice, video, data, multimedia, messaging, content delivery, mobility, broadcating and multicasting and other types of communication services, stated a press release from BSNL.


Free Night Calling

BSNL has introduced free night calling from 9 pm to 7 am with unlimited free calls to any landline or mobile subscriber, throughout India.

This facility is applicable to select landline/BB combo plans, FTTH voice connections and BB combo plans. This scheme is also applicable to urban and rural areas (general, One India, economy, special, special plus, super and premium plans). Closed connections can be reconnected without installation charges. Incoming facility is provided for DNP cases.

Also, on June 15, BSNL announced free all India roaming, where all incoming calls to BSNL mobile would be free while roaming anywhere in India.

    bsnl only gives promises but actuall problem and disconnectivity we are facing daily. i live in grama panchayath there is bsnl tower but tragedy is the after erecting the tower no range at all, what a condition of bsnl

    Just like the views expressed in this column here, my experience too with BSNL goes the same way. Unless and until BSNL sets right the basic service of providing a 24x7 working line for telephone service by changing some of the old and troublesome exchanges in rural & semi-rural areas, BSNL can simply forget of getting new customers for their services. The announcement made by the BSNL of D.K. is not going to make much difference for the people of D.K. without giving a satisfactory service to the people. Priority should be given to areas where the mobile network is very poor.

    Enhancement and road maps are good for the development of any society, state , country but pls dont forget the existing subscribers who are undergoing the pain of the BSNL services. I have written a mail to the PGM of DK telecom for the service interruption issue that happens very frequently in my residential area and now since last 3 weeks the services are not up in the beeri kotekar area, regret to say that no one has bothered to look into the issue.

    There is no proper land line connectivity in Dakshina Kannada Grama Panchayat houses becoz No proper cable laying or its maintenance done. No Mobile network connection inside the houses. We have to come out near the road to get the connectivity. What they are talking about Wi-Fi.This is just time pass.

    BSNL cannot Connect Mangalore city itself, then how can they connect remote gram panchayats?
    Their Broad-Band stops working after 6 pm to 11 pm daily. During day time also their Broad-band just trickles slowly with long breaks every five minutes.
    And their Linemen always enjoy unauthorized week-end holidays on every Saturday. Hence our complaint lodged on Friday evening will never be attended on Saturday, but it will be always attended on Monday afternoon only.
    Salary-wise also BSNL employees' Salary is two times that of Bank employees. With such pathetic service of BSNL I dont think they can participate in any Smart-City or Amruth City projects.

    Dear Mr.Ravi, I want to share my personnel experience of BSNL land line which i subscribed 12 years back. Now from last 18 months my landline along with other 4 were out of service. When we contacted BSNL kinnigoli office they just told us that they were unable to repair our land line and just pressurizing us to apply for a cancellation. We dont have any mobile network in my area and my parents were senior citizens. In case of emergency we are unable to call Doctor,Police and any other officials or our relatives for help due to lack of mobile network.BSNL officials were completely deaf and dumb for our complaints.If your a honest officer can you please resolve this issue and provide us justice

    I challenge BSNL whether their service in rural area are satisfactory.They have short of cables and manpower.If BSNL really support DIGITAL INDIA,provide broad band service in competitive (cheaper price)Now for minimum for unlimited is RS.730-750....BSNL SERVICE IS VERY POOR....AND ALWAYS lack of network coverage...They(CEOs)need to visit maximum exchanges to experience on hand experience.)

    BSNL & Reliability ....Big NO..

    I had 2 broadband lines from them for trading purpose. It was a total waste as it was not at all reliable. Then came their wonder alternative fiber optic line alias FTTH. I took it in 2012 paying hepty sum in advance for full year to get connection hoping it will solve my connectivity issues. But, same sorry state continues.

    I went several times to cancell it. But, they just give one or the other excuse. So, guys better be safe when you are promised moon. Never rely on their service for any serious business...

    I welcome the mega announcements from BSNL which appears very rosy but I have a grievance about their existing services. I am one of their loyal landline customer since 1990. Currently the same landline delivers broadband internet services at my residence in Kinnigoli which is highly unreliable causing frequent outs while on skype and sometimes total denial of services to the internet. No matter how many times the issue has been reported to their local exchange branch and higher ups there is no improvements in service standards. Even the simple request to change the service wire from the pole to the house has been not looked after. Currently the service wire has several breaks which has been fixed like a Band-Aid solution from time to time which is to join the broken points by means of twisting conductors to hold the broken ends together. This ingenious repair technique has exposed the metal wires to weather damages like rain, oxidation and rust! It is so pathetic. I have been paying their bills promptly for their third rate services. I hope someone in BSNL reads this and looks into the pathetic service that I have to put up with.

    Saga of success of BSNL state owned premier telephone/internet provider,in bring down its business is really commendable.Few times back I read in some news paper that its LL subscribers has come down since last five years to 50%.In DK BSNL was giving good service as I was subscriber since 1998.Till recently I had BSNL LL/internet connection.Now though I am residing in a most popular layout,few months back when I approached BSNL people did not show any inclination to give LL stating that there is no'box' in the area.Then I went for TATA Docomo and hathway for internet wishing BSNL RIP!

    I have no faith with this BSNL. I could not get Internet line even after 2 months of my application in 2010. Until today they have not refunded the advance money collected. First they have to replace all the old staff.
