Sullia, Jul 6: The body of a person from Sakleshpur taluk was found hanging at the residence of his in-laws in the taluk on Sunday July 5. Sathish (34), resident of Bekkanahalli in Sakleshpur taluk apparently ended his life by hanging himself at the parental home of his wife, Divya, at Permukaje in Kalmakaru near Subrahmanya in the taluk. Relatives of the deceased however, insist that it is a well-planned murder.
Divya from Permukaje, Kalmakaru, had married Sathish from Bekkanayalli about seven years back. After lack of understanding between the two marred their relationship, they lived separately at Bekkanahalli for sometime to avoid fighting frequently. Still, the fight between the two continued even thereafter, as Sathish, it is said, who was addicted to liquor, used to pester his wife for money on a daily basis.
Many a time, Divya, frustrated over this never-ending ordeal, visited her parents to stay with them. Sathish used to follow her there to request her to come back to him. Fed up by this never-ending feud, Divya had deserted her Bekkanahalli residence and started living at her parental home since the last around two months.
Because of frequent fights, both the daughters of the couple have not been able to attend school properly. Since the last two years, they have stayed away from school, it is learnt.
Sathsih, who worked as coolie in the taluk, had shifted base to Bekkanahalli a few years back. On Friday, he came to the house of his in-laws. It is said that at around 10 pm on Friday, he called his mother over phone to tell her that he had sorted out differences with Divya, and that he would be back on Sunday.
On Saturday night, he had asked his wife, who used to stay in another room in the house, to come to his room. Allegedly, he abused her and threatened to kill her when she went there. Dismayed at this behaviour, Divya went back and slept along with her mother and children in the other room.
On Sunday morning, Sathish's body was found hanging from a sari in his room. A pitcher used to fill water and empty liquor bottle were found lying nearby, and his cell phone was found to have been broken, with its pieces scattered around the room.
On Saturday night, Divya, her mother, Kamala, and two small children were the only people to have stayed in this house. During the questioning, both Divya and her elder daughter told the police that Sathsih used to torture his wife and children regularly. Relatives of the deceased however, insist that Sathsih has been murdered by his wife and relatives.
Sathish's brother, Suresh, said that Sathish was a good human being. He accused Divya of having an affair outside her marriage, which he claims, had given rise to differences between her and her husband. He wanted detailed investigation to find out the truth. Some locals too have suspicion about Divya's character, it is said.
A case of suicide stands registered in this connection at Suibnrahmanya police station. The body was handed over to the brothers of the deceased after postmortem at Subrahmanya government hospital. Policemen confirmed that no injury marks were found on the body during postmortem.
