District administration tells Subramanya temple to use loud speaker as before

Daijiworld Media Network- Puttur (RJP)

Puttur, Jul 5: An order sent by the district administration to Kukke Subramanya temple led to protests and the administration has sent a new communication to the temple to stick to the practice as before.

The issue was regarding the loud speaker volume during the transmission of Suprabhata prayers in the morning.

Former Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Harikrishna Punaroor had complained to the district administration that loud speaker at the temple was disturbing the people in the vicinity and added to the sound pollution in the area. Accordingly the administration sent an order to the temple to bring down the volume during the Suprabhata transmission.

But the issue of this order was taken seriously by the devotees and some organizations. On Friday people with the backing of some Hindu organizations protested in Subramanya. They said that if the order was not taken back, a district-wide protest would be held.

The district administration realised that the issue would turn into a bigger problem involving religious sentiments and sent a communication to the temple saying that they can continue with the same amount of volume in the loud speakers during the transmission of prayers in the morning.

The temple administration has confirmed these developments through a press statement.

As per Supreme court order No one shall beat a drum or tom-tom or blow a trumpet or beat or sound any instrument or use any sound amplifier at night (between 10.00 p.m. and 6 a.m.) except in public emergencies. But, who cares. Non-implementation of above order is serious issue and infringement of fundamental right of citizens.

Subramanya temple is built hundreds of years before and also the suprabatha played there in. the people who settled now are well very know this noise. If they disturbed with this they should not have settle near the temple area . very well done by district administration by restoring.

Loud speakers in religious places are a means of threatening and bullying people around that area. Even people who attend the prayers there are afraid to object because of being ostracized. It would have been tolerable if the prayers were soft and pleasant, but unfortunately the prayers sound like someone is torturing a bunch of animals. This is because the prayers are not sung from the heart, but to merely 'naam ke vaasthe' so people will know they are praying. This problem will persist as long as people keep quiet and allow religions to blackmail the public.

Was it in the tradition to use loudspeakers in any religion prior to their introduction?
If the answer is no, then these things should be controlled.
Real "Suprabatha" is hearing the sounds of birds & other animals happily welcoming the beginning of a new day with Sunrise. If this tradition in tune with nature is not followed then certainly it is a disturbance.
Students who want to study early in the morning & those people who want to meditate in tune with nature is more beneficial to people than recorded sound blast in the garb of religion.
The administration should take clear steps to help create better environment than taking one step forward & 2 steps backward. Any decision should be based on Supreme Court Directive to keep noise pollution in prescribed limits.
Hope they learn a lesson from this fiasco.

Guys! Where are we headed to??? there are somany other instances where it needs attention, and not such issues on Religious Prayers! Perhaps, I guess every religion in Mangalore has equal shares on their prayers, Hindu- Suprabhatha! Musil- Baang in the Mosque, Cathlics- Church bells! Mr. Harikrishna Punaroor, if your ears cant bear the sound of a holy Suprabhath, then better keep cotton on your ears! Shame on you!

Fair enough...If loud speaker volume bring down to the non polluting level or so it should be followed by all religious institution which are using it.Public disturbance is a cause of concern but that being said a uniform rules in this regard may brought in practice in national level.
