Udupi, Jul 3: The government has promoted Yermal Rohit Hegde as the assistant commissioner of customs, Mumbai. Hegde has presently been posted at the Nhava Sheva port at Mumbai, after serving at Mumbai airport, cargo and Mumbai port in the capacity of customs superintendent.
Rohit Hegde happens to be the son of the late Yenagudde Doddamane Chittarnjandas Hegde and Sanoorguthu Tara C Hegde couple. After pursuing primary and high school education through Poorprajna school Admar, he had secured bachelor's degree from Govinda Dasa College Suratkal.
Rohit Hegde had tremendous interest in sports since a very young age. He was national champion in 400 metres race. He had also been chosen for international events in 800 metres races. Based on these achievements, Hegde succeeded in bagging a job in Mumbai customs from sports quota. Maharashtra government has conferred on him 'Chatrapati Shivaji' award in recognition of his achievements in the field of athletics.
Rohit Hegde happens to be a religious leader and organizer of eminence. He is an avid fan of Kambala sport. He has been guiding Katapadi Kambala by functioning as president of Katapadibeedu Kambala Samiti since the last three decades. He has also been serving as president of Kukkehalli Lord Mahalingeshwara Brahmakalashotsava Samiti and Yermal Lord Janardhana Temple Brahmakalashotsava Samiti. He is also the honourary president of Uchchila Sri Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samiti.
Hegde had joined Mumbai customs in 1980 from sports quota as preventive officer. Because of his hard work and sincerity, he rose to become superintendent in 1997.
