Udupi, Jun 29: Dr Subhash Chandra, chairman, Essel Group and Zee, on Monday June 29 held an inteactive session with the students of T A Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal here on the topics 'Has the news media lost its credibility?' and 'The importance of gratitude'.
Addressing the students, he said, "News media is a tool which in a large democracy like ours creates public opinion so that the other pillars of the society like the executive, the legislature, the judiciary and even business, do not use democracy for their own gains.
"Today, so much information is available on the internet which helps people to decipher the difference between right and wrong. Social media is keeping the mass media in check and helping the news media to stay honest," he added.
Interacting with the students on the topic of 'gratitude', Dr Chandra said, "The expression of gratitude to the environment makes life beautiful. When we do good work, we like our reflection in the mirror in the morning. This sense of gratitude also makes us feel more positive, better and younger."
He further added, "In a large and densely populated country like India, we have more people dependent on our government for anything and everything. People are losing self-respect without realizing its importance. Self-respect is an inner light which should be given out to society."
Speaking on the problems faced by an entrepreneur during the initiation of a new work, Dr Chandra said, "Problems are normal; it is necessary to work hard with pride and go with one's own ideas."
He further said that so far the government has contributed very little to the country's economic growth. "The lending and borrowing system makes people stable, but it can't run for a long time. Nearly 21 percent of the government's total budget goes towards paying interest. India's youth are enterprising, but they do not get proper guidance and support," he added.
He also spoke to the students on the next episodes of his show 'Dr Subhash Chandra (DSC) Show' on Zee.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, he said, "I was inspired by my father's words to enhance the family tradition. Thus, I have got lots of experience and would like to share my views with the younger generation as well as small and large scale entrepreneurs. Our experience and self-assessment are two crucial criteria for achieving success."
