In Maari, Dhanush's character is up to no good, but he isn't bad

Mumbai, Jun 28: Actor Dhanush plays a swaggering slumlord in Maari with his thick gold chains and bracelets, his button down shirt which is open half way down his chest and his arrogant strut. The trailer reveals that he was initially just an ordinary guy who was only interested in taking care of his pigeons, and in the span of eight years, he rose to become a force to reckon with in his native village. His presence is feared and even the local constabulary is unable to touch him under any pretext.

The first half of the trailer shows Dhanush throwing his weight around town and keeping those against him, under his thumb. Soon after the introduction of the film's leading lady Kajal Agarwal, the perspective of Dhanush takes a 360 degree shift, as she herself claims that she is unable to decide if he is a bad guy or a good guy.

For all his swash buckling , the actor is not the villain in the story and is instead on the side of his own people. He beats up the bad guys, but otherwise he is just busy getting into mischief. His catch phrase that comes at regular intervals is, "Will finish you off." Dhanush has emoted the local accent as well as presence to perfection, so much so it is difficult to find similarities with the character he played in R. Balki's Shamitabh.
