Bantwal, Jun 28: One student was injured after two groups engaged in a fight during the victory celebration following student leader election at Vittal Pre University College in Vittal near here on Saturday June 27. It is said that the students resorted to stone pelting which caused the injury.
Kiran Raj Rai (18) from Manchi is the person injured.
After the incident, one of the two groups stopped vehicles on the road in protest against the assault on the student.
On Saturday morning, Yogish from second PU commerce was declared as the winner in the student election held at the college. After that students were allowed to go home. When the supporters and friends of Yogish wanted to celebrate inside the college premises, the principal and lecturers did not allow them to do so.
When the jubilant team went outside the premises to celebrate, another team of students standing outside the gate passed remarks which reportedly sparked the fight.
Mohammed Ashfaq (18) from second PU commerce, who was part of that group allegedly pelted stones at the victorious group saying he would not allow the celebration. He also threatened them with dire consequences, states a complaint lodged at Vittal police station by injured Kiran.
A case has been registered in Vittal police station on charges of disruption of public peace and life threat.
Bantwal circle inspector Beliappa, sub inspector from Bantwal rural police station Rakshith A K and Vittal sub-inspector Prakash Devadiga visited the spot and brought the situation under control.
Some students stopped the vehicles on Vittal Salethur road near the sub-registrar’s office after the student was injured. But when the police reached the spot, the students ran away.
In 2013 also there had been some unrest at the college after a group of students alleged that there was a problem in the election result. Then also a protest had taken place.
