Mumbai, Jun 25: Director, film-maker turned actor Karan Johar, has acceded that playing the flamboyant villain in Anurag Kashyap's movie Bombay Velvet, has not been the harbinger of more acting offers his way. Much awaited though it was, BV, did not manage to make as much of a splash as was expected, and most of the characters managed even less than a squeak.
Many were eager to see the director and talk show host take his place before the coveted arc lights of a movie set, but not many seem to be too impressed with the end result. More importantly, no one else from the movie industry itself seems very keen for a repeat performance from him.
At a press conference, Karan is reported to have expressed hi s feelings on the matter, "Nobody has offered me any role till now. I think nobody has liked me. Why should I be blaming Anurag Kashyap (for the film's failure). I should at least get offers to refuse them. I can't cast myself in my own films...I am not that stupid," The press conference was part of the promotional activity for his movie Bahubali. A song, from the movie, was also launched at this event.
Bahubali is the Hindi version of Telugu director S S Rajamouli's magnum opus of the same name. About the great film-maker, Karan said, "We don't have a filmmaker like him (Rajamouli) here (in Bollywood) who can make films on such a huge canvas... putting 3-4 years of his life in one project. There are few filmmakers like him (Rajamouli) who will give three-four years for one film. We need such actors as well." The movie starring Rana Dagubatti, Prantas, Anushka Shetty and Tamaannah Bhatia will release on July 10.
