Mirpur (Bangladesh), June 19 (IANS): Before the match, the Bangladesh cricket team remained tight-lipped about how much they wanted to avenge their defeat of this year’s World Cup quarterfinal to India.
But the fans revelling at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium following the victory in Thursday’s One-Day International have clearly made up for that, reports bdnews.24.com.
Bangladesh, riding on a marvellous five-wicket haul by debutant Mustafizur Rahman, outclassed India by 79 runs in the first ODI here on Thursday.
Earlier, Bangladesh batsmen posted an impressive 307 with some brilliant strokeplay and gritty accumulation of runs.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan claimed the last wicket only to trigger wild celebrations in the stadium and throughout the country that were already set in motion by skipper Mashrafe Mortaza when he took out Mohit Sharma in the 42nd over as ninth Indian wicket.
The win gave the hosts a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
