Kundapur, Jun 12: Udupi district police, Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association Kundapur taluk, Jattigeshwara Youth Club Gangolli, Sarvadharma Souharda Sammilana Vedike Gangolli, Blood Bank Center, and Government District Hospital, Udupi, jointly held a voluntary blood donation programme as well as a felicitation for blood donors on the eve of ‘Blood Donors Day’ on Friday June 12 at Kundapur Rotary Laxmi Narasimha Kala Mandira.
Udupi district police commissioner K Annamalai after inaugurating the programme said that groups, associations, school and college students by donating blood provide light to the lives struggling between life and death in emergencies and accidents. “By donating blood at the camp, police personnel have shown their service mentality. Let there be more programmes such as this in the future to create awareness on blood donation,” he said.
Kundapur Government College medical officer Dr Uday Shanker presided over the programme. Businessman M M Ibrahim, Government Employees’ Association district president Subrahmanya Sherugar, Dr Niranajan R Shetty from Kundapur New Medical Center, and Dr Veena Kumari from the blood bank of Udupi District Hospital were present as guests.
Nearly 23 people including students and journalists were felicitated on the occasion.
Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association president Dinakar Shetty welcomed and gave the keynote address. Teacher Sumana compered the programme. Coastal Voluntary Blood Donor’s Association president Divakar Kharvi proposed the vote of thanks.
