Mangaluru, Jun 11: "Dr Shivarama Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama will organize 'Pilikula Male Habba' (rain festival) on Sunday, June 14", said SA Prabhakara Sharma, executive director, Dr Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisarga Dhama.
He was addressing a press meet here at DC’s office on Thursday, June 11.
Addressing the press, Sharma said, “After the success of Matsyotsava and Vasantotsava which were held recently, we are organizing yet another festival on June 14. The event will be inaugurated at 10 am. The objective of this programme is to create awareness about our tradition and conservation of nature. There is no entry fee for the visitors”.
“The main attraction of the festival will be umbrella exhibition and there will also be umbrella designing competition where the most attractive umbrella will be given a prize of Rs 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000 for the first, second and third places respectively. The last date for registration for the competition is June 13. A three person panel will judge the winners. The festival will witness planting of 100 types of plants, native to western ghat region in Pilikula as part of the rain festival on June 14”, he added.
Deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said, “The umbrella exhibition will give a chance for the artistes to display their talents. It will be fun hours. The umbrellas have to be attractive and useful like a normal rainy day umbrella. The agriculture department intends to setup a stall on the occasion. The main intention is not only to make Pilikula green but to spread awareness among pepole so that they start planting trees in other areas also. The management is taking lots of efforts to organize festivals every month and this time special interest is taken for parking area too. Just five meter away from Pilikula, Male Habba huge ground will be used for parking. We request all to come and support the event and have a pleasant time at Pilikula Nisargadhama”.
Variety cultural activities, magic show, exhibition and sale of agricultural equipments, plantation of saplings, fresh rainy season delicacies and monsoon photographs etc will be included in 'Pilikula Male Habba' 2015.
