Mangaluru, Jun 5: Fr Frederick D'Souza (44), serving as priest of the church at Alphonse Nagar, Channarayanapatna in Hassan district, breathed his last on Thursday June 4. He was being treated at Fr Muller Medical College Hospital.
Although it is being claimed that he was a victim of swine flu, this has not been confirmed yet by the hospital.
Fr Frederick was a native of in Koppa taluk, Chikkamagaluru district. He had worked in the past in Jayapura church, before being transferred to Channarayapatna. Although he was suffering from ill health since sometime, it is said that he did not opt to get treatment promptly.
It is gathered that Fr Frederick was suffering from intermittent fever since about a month. After he fell seriously ill, he was brought to Fr Muller Hospital here for treatment four days back. He did not respond to treatment as is pneumonia and intestinal infections had worsened, it is gathered.
Funeral of Fr Frederick D'Souza was held on Friday at Chikkamagaluru cathedral which was attended by hundreds of people.
