Mangaluru, Jun 2: Free school books to the children and free identity cards to the teachers of Bengre and Kasba Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat higher primary school were donated at a programme held by North deck port coastal minority fisheries primary cooperative society at their office premises on Saturday May 30.
MLA J R Lobo, speaking on the occasion after inaugurating the programme said that the cooperative society has involved itself in its service to society by distributing school books to poor children, help to patients and also in other ways. He went on to say, “Encouraging school children holds more value than any other donation to society. It enables the child to build a bright future. The children who received free books, their parents/guardians and society can never forget this good deed of their donors.”
“An amount of Rs 20 lac is set aside through the ports authority for the reconstruction of Mangaluru fisheries deck. The work will begin soon after discussing the matter with the minister of fisheries. The
government is bound to provide necessary land as per the demand,” he said.
Muda president Ibrahim Kodichal speaking on the occasion said that many Muslims have chosen fishing as their occupation. The cooperative society is progressing well with the cooperation of the Mogaveers and
the christian community.
650 school children received school books at a cost of Rs 2.5 lac. Patients of cancer, heart and kidney diseases were handed over cheques of Rs 60 thousand each. Habeeb and Joseph D' souza who have served the society for many years were felicitated on the occasion.
Society president J Mohammed Isaq presided over the programme. Vice president B Ahmed Bava Bajal, advisor Farook Bengre, fisheries department deputy director M D Prasad, district cooperative association assistant manager B K Saleem, development department official Janardhan, ports official M K Venkatesh, Mangaluru trawl boat fisheries association president Nithin Kumar, association director M A Gafoor, U T Ahmed Sharif, B Mohammed Shali, S K Ismail, S M Ibrahim, DMK Mohammed Ibrahim, T H Hameed and Fathimath Zohra were present.
D Abdul Latif, chief executive of the programme read the report. Mohammed Mustafa Harekala welcomed and compered the programme.
