Mangaluru, May 30: Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo on Saturday May 30 inspected the work of Gujjarakere lake at Jeppu here and said that he has asked the officials to take special interest in this cleaning the lake and complete it at the earliest.
Speaking to mediapersons after inspecting the work, he said, "The minor irrigation department and the Mangaluru City Corporation are working together to restore this lake. Now one dredger is being used for cleaning the lake and by June 20, two more dredgers will be used.
"There has been a encroachment of drain and I have asked the officials to take action. There is underground drainage problem and I have asked the officials to clear this issue at the earliest. They have promised to clear the problem within a week," he added.
"This lake is a part of Mangaladevi and Marigudi temples and there will be immersion of dieties during the temple fairs. I have asked the officials to ensure that there is not a single drop of underground drainage water mixing with this lake water. This is a heritage of Mangaluru and cleaning of this lake is a holy work. So I have told the officials to take special interest in this work.
"Once the cleaning of this lake is done the corporation will develop the surrounding with walking tracks, garden and other amenities. I have full faith in the officials and I hope this work gets completed by next temple fair."
Corporator Rathikala, Congress leaders T K Sudhir, Bennet D'Mello, corporation officials, minor irrigation department officials and others were present.
