Kundapur, May 30: After the driver of a tipper truck lost control over the vehicle when passing through Kumbhashi on national highway 66 on Friday May 29 afternoon, the vehicle entered a roadside garage, partly damaging vehicles and the garage.
Vehicles were being serviced by mechanics at Sri Durgamba Auto Works, run by partners, Ramesh Acharya and Subhas, when the tipper suddenly changed its course and smashed into the garage. The tipper was moving towards Malyady village from the town, it is said. The tipper jumped over the road divider, moved on the opposite lanes, hit a Qualis passenger vehicle that was coming from the opposite direction, and entered the garage. A Tata 1109 goods vehicle parked outside the garage, and a Force Pick-up truck inside the garage were damaged after being hit by the wayward tipper. All these three vehicles suffered heavy damage, and the entire roof of the garage came crashing down.
Luckily, all the three mechanics who were busy in their work in the garage, escaped at the last minute by running away, it is said. If there was a delay of even a fraction of second on their part, they would have faced a bleak future. Eyewitnesses said that it was not less than a miracle that no lives were lost in an accident of this nature.
A large number of costly spare parts and other things inside the garage were destroyed in this accident, and as per an estimate, the garage has suffered a loss of four lac rupees.
