Bengaluru, May 29: Falling in line with the desires of the Narendra Modi-led NDA regime at the Centre, the Siddaramaiah ministry has issued a circular directing all colleges and universities to celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21.
The United Nations has declared June 21 as the International Yoga Day.
It may be recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged the United Nations during his address to its General Assembly to popularise Yoga all over the world.

Karnataka’s Higher Education and Tourism Minister R V Deshpande told reporters in Bengaluru on Friday that all teaching and non-teaching staff and students of all government, aided and un-aided colleges and universities have been directed to organise yoga programmes on June 21.
Deshpande, who released bi-lingual e-News Letter of the Department, said a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Sanskrit Vice-Chancellor to study the issue of teaching yoga as a subject and related employment opportunities.
Yoga would be taught to students comprehensively to understand its importance and the recognition at the global level, he said.
For the benefit of teachers and students in rural and urban areas, it was decided to adopt Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) and Cloud Technology in teaching-learning process.
In the line with ranking of universities world-wide, the department was also planning to award ranking to universities in the State.
To streamline the administration, he said the department has proposed to appoint KAS officers as registrars of universities.
