Madikeri: Four thieves nabbed, five kg gold ornaments, cash, seized

Madikeri, May 29: Relating to a theft which had occurred on the night of May 2 at Sulugodu village near Ponnampet in Kodagu district, the district police have succeeded in arresting four accused. They have recovered 5.113 kg gold along with Rs 1,03,000 in cash from the culprits.

The arrested accused have been identified as K G Suresh from Uluguli near Suntikoppa in Kodagu district, M Yogesh from Chandragutti in Sorab taluk, Shivamogga district, H R Girish from Konanur in Hassan district, and his father, Raju. The value of gold ornaments so recovered has been put at Rs 1.3 crore.

When K U Bopaiah from Sulugodu village was away attending the marriage function of his nephew at Ponnampet on the night of May 2, thieves had entered his house and stolen gold ornaments and cash. The thieves had broken open the back door, opened the almirahs in the bedroom and dining hall, and taken away gold ornaments and cash, including those kept by relatives who had arrived there for attending the above marriage from far off places.

Bopaiah came to know about the theft after returning home at midnight. Thereafter, he filed a police complaint. The police caught hold of the accused after learning that some of the stolen ornaments were being sold by the accused.

Kodagu district superintendent of police, Vartika Katiyar, directed the said operation, which was guided by Virajpet deputy superintendent of police, Kumarchandra. Ponnampet police made the arrests.
