Kasargod, May 27: Thieves entered a temple at Chittarikal and decamped with two ancient idols on Tuesday night, May 26.
The theft occurred at Kunnungai Srikammadam Bhagavathi temple at Chittarikal. The priests had finished puja and gone after closing the door on May 26. When they came in the morning on Wednesday, May 27, they found the door of Sanctorum broken.
They found the idol of Bhagavathi made up of five metals and a brass idol of Sridevi made of brass, missing.
It is said that the main idol made of five metals is ancient and very valuable. Thieves have not taken anything else other than the idols.
Vellarikundu Police station CI T P Sumesh led police team arrived at the place and conducted investigation. The role of a gang conducting thefts of valuables in ancient temples and banks, is suspected.
