Udupi, May 27: Dr Vinod Bhat, presently functioning as pro vice-chancellor of Manipal University, has been appointed as vice-chancellor of the university. This appointment has been made for a period of five years with effect from June 1 this year.
Dr Bhat, who holds doctor of medicine degree in community medicine, who also holds honorary fellowship of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, will be the sixth vice-chancellor of Manipal University. He has long experience as a professor and also as an administrator. Several of his scientific write ups have appeared in national and international publications. The directorate of research founded by Bhat in the university has played a stellar role in enabling the university to reach its goal in researches and also attracted lot of external funds for research work. Under his guidance, Manipal University Press has brought out over 40 publications during the last three years.
Dr Bhat had worked as chief medical officer of Dr T M A Pai Rotary Hospital Karkala, and also as the chief executive officer of Kasturba Hospital Manipal. He has served as advisor to Manipal Global Education Services, apart from discharging responsibilities as member of a number of other boards and institutions.
Dr Bhat's wife, Dr Parvati Bhat, happens to be medical superintendent of Dr T M A Hospital in the town.
