Kundapur: Vehicle trying to overtake hits bike, kills rider

Kundapur, May 26: Mahadeva Kharvi (25), who was riding his motor bike, was killed in an unfortunate accident which occurred on national highway at Navunda near Maravante in the taluk on Monday May 25. He was hit by a Toyota Innova passenger vehicle coming from the opposite direction, which was trying to overtake another vehicle.



The Innova was moving towards Bhatkal from the direction of Mangaluru. Its driver was trying to overtake another vehicle at Navunda, when he could not avoid hitting the motor bike coming from the opposite direction. Because of the speed of both the vehicles collided with each other, Kharvi suffered grave injuries to his head and other body parts, and lost his life on the spot.

Mahadeva Kharvi was the son of Naga Kharvi, a resident of Murdeshwar House in Koderi here. He was a fisherman by profession. Reportedly, he was going to Gangolli fishing port to work at night, when tragedy struck.

The locals, who had gathered at the accident spot, expressed anguisih at the delayed arrival of policemen at the accident spot. For sometime, heated words were exchanged between the people and the policemen. The policemen clarified that their arrival was delayed as they had been deployed for security duty at Kollur.

The driver of the Innova stands arrested. A case has been registered in Byndoor police station relating to the accident.
