Mangaluru, May 25: In a hit-and-run case reported from Subhashitnagar in Suratkal, a youth suffered grave injuries after he was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the night of Saturday May 23, and died.
The victim has been identified as Jagadish Shetty (38), who was working as waiter in a hotel at Suratkal. He was a native of a village near Bajagoli.
Jagadish was walking towards his room on the other side of the road after duty hours at about 11.20 pm on Saturday. When crossing the highway for the purpose, a vehicle approached the spot at high speed and knocked him down, before speeding away. Closed circuit TV camera records of his hotel showed that the killer vehicle resembled Toyota Fortuner car.
People in the neighbourhood rushed the spot immediately after hearing the sound of the accident, but the car that had caused the accident had already vanished from the spot, eyewitnesses said.
The vehicle that was moving towards Mulky from the direction of Suratkal hit Shetty, after which he was provided initial treatment in a hospital in Suratkal. He was thereafter admitted into a private hospital in the city. However, the doctors there declared him brought dead.
