Mangaluru, May 23: 'Uretta Kannda Siri', the maiden collection of Tulu poems written by Dubai-based Prakash Rao Payyar, president of Dhwani Prathishthana, UAE was released on Saturday May 23 at Tulu Sahitya Academy here.
MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik released the anthology in a programme organized by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy and Dhwani Prathishthana.
Addressing the gathering, Karnik said, "Litterateurs should drop demanding rights which divide the minds and work to correct mistakes in the society. In present day, a writer needs to create consciousness and awaken a cultured society. During pre-Independence days, writers propagated about people's rights, and even today writers continue to do the same. There should be a positive approach if we have to witness the true beauty of society. Litterateurs should unite the society by correcting its mistakes. Hence those who are in the field of literature and culture have the most responsibility."
He also congratulated Prakash Payyar on bringing out his anthology of Tulu poems and wished him good luck.
NSS state officer Dr Gananath Yekkar who gave an introduction about the anthology said, "This is a beautiful compilation of poems in Tulu literature.
