Mangaluru, May 21: A theft was reported at a house in Kudthadka, Bajal here on Thursday May 21 evening.

Thieves broke into the house belonging to Harishchandra Bekal (50) and decamped with 70 sovereigns of gold ornaments approximately worth Rs 15 lac.

Owner of the house Harishchandra stays abroad while his wife Jyoti and their young son live here.

It is learnt that Jyoti and her son had left for their native place in Bekal, Kasargod last Saturday, and the theft came to light only after they returned on Thursday evening.

The thieves reportedly entered the house by breaking open the side door of the house. Sources said that Jyoti, thinking it was unsafe to keep the gold ornaments in the cupboard, had instead kept them in a small plastic tub and placed the tub under her bed. The thieves ransacked the cupboard and finding nothing, looked around and saw the tub containing the ornaments, and decamped with them.

ACP Kalyan Shetty, circle inspector Pramod and other police personnel arrived at the spot and investigated.

Mangaluru rural police have registered a case.

And once again the thieves will be either from MP, AP or Bihar. It's hightime for D.K. Administration to look & limit the inflow of people from neighbouring and other states into Mangalore.

    Gagan,

Have you handed over your gold to the bank as per Mr. Modi's scheme ?

Don't tell others to do what you won't, you do it yourself and others will follow.

Now a days thieves are very smart. They know if they don't find gold in the cup board, defenetly it will be hidden some where around. This happened in jyothis house. Its really madness and foolishness to hide gold in the house.Pls do not leave any gold ornaments when going out of house for tour/holidays/visiting family.
Safe lockers available in bank which is safe than keeping at home.
In banks they have fire alarms in case of any robbery to the safe vault.
