Moscow, May 19 (IANS): Russia coach Italian Fabio Capello has criticised the high salaries of footballers in the country, saying they prevent the players from switching to other leagues where they would gain more experience.
Capello told the Russian football union's website on Monday that nobody is willing to pay such excessively high wages to Russian players in foreign championships, reports Efe.
He also said that the relationship between value and price was not always balanced in the Russian league.
In fact, midfielder Denis Cheryshev, who plays for Spanish club Villarreal, is the only Russian international competing in a foreign league.
Russia is currently in third place in Group G of the Euro 2016 qualifiers after five rounds of play, and needs just one more point to jump to second place, which would guarantee its direct qualification to the championship.
