Mangaluru, May 19: A married woman named Sujata (25) committed suicide by hanging herself at the home of her husband at Gorigudda Nekkaremar in the city on Sunday May 17.
A death note that is purported to have been written by Sujata has been found at the house. It is said that this note has accused a person named Santosh Bhat of cheating her after falsely projecting as if he was in love with her. She also accused Santosh of bringing pressure on her to love him, and intimidating her to divorce her husband. Santosh Bhat happens to serve a temple near Central Market in the city in the capacity of a priest.
Sujata had married Hemant from here about five years back. Frustrated at the liquor addiction of her husband, Sujata had left her husband's home and returned to parents about three months back. However, she suddenly returned to Hemant's home on May 17 and ended her life the same day.
During questioning, Santosh is said to have denied having any relationship with Sujata. He said he knew her as she visited the temple frequently. The policemen, it is said, have checked some SMSes exchanged between the two.
As the members of Sujata's family expressed suspicion that she would have undergone harassment at the hands of her husband, the policemen have also named him as an accused along with Hemant, for abetment to suicide. Santosh Bhat, a native of Karkala, has been arrested. Investigation is progressing.
