Puttur: Five seriously injured in serial accident, traffic affected

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (DV)

Puttur, May 18: Five persons were seriously injured in an accident involving three vehicles at Mukrampady here on Monday May 18.

The accident took place between two Eicher tempos and a bus. Following the accident, traffic on Sullia-Puttur highway was affected for more than an hour.

It is learnt that the driver of the bus moving from Puttur to Pallathur applied sudden brakes at Mukrampady, and an Eicher tempo carrying scrap which was behind the bus just missed hitting it. However, another tempo laden with gravel stones, which was behind the other tempo, hit it and as a result, the first tempo rammed into the bus.

The tempo laden with stones was said to be moving at a high speed.

Though the bus was not damaged much, the front portions of both the tempos were smashed.

Five persons in the two tempos got trapped inside, and a JCB had to be used to rescue them. All five were admitted to a private hospital with grievous injuries. Their identities are not yet known.

The three vehicles were cleared with the help of the JCB. Local auto rickshaw drivers helped in the rescue efforts. "Sadly, many of the locals were busy clicking photos of the incident instead of helping the injured," said the auto drivers.

The traffic was affected for more than an hour, with vehicles on either ends of the road stuck in a gridlock for as far as one km.

Accidents are daily occurrences and unless the department of law and order and traffic evolve some ways to control traffic the situation will get worse.

We have a good police force in Mangalore, Udupi and Puttur too. Hope they look into these aspects seriously and take positive steps to control the situation.

what a shame "all are busy in clicking pics instead of helping them". By clicking the pics they want to forward it to their people and say they are the first to report.
Guys please stop taking pics and just think if you where in the vehicle which smashed and how would you feel.

Everyday RTO offices all over country is registering thousands of cars and collecting crores of money.
Every business and tax payers are paying road development taxes separately.
The IAS, IRS,IPS and KAS officers are responsible for these accidents.
None of these officers are showing interest on widening roads as per the safety guidelines.
we no need blame political parties.
we do not pay taxes to parties.
we pay taxes and these officers are highly paid and live a lavish life.
They have a duty to plan and develop infrastructure to meet the safety of general public.
Every road should have safety divider and there should be straight roads.
