Udupi, May 13: A lorry hit a pedestrian crossing the road at Uchila on Wednesday May 13, and the rear wheel of the vehicle ran over his right hand seriously injuring him.
Thimmayya (48), a resident of Pagina in Andhra Pradesh, is the victim who has been admitted to a Udupi hospital.
He is an employee of the contractor of Navayug Road Construction Company. As he had an off on Wednesday he had gone to Uchila market and after getting drunk, was crossing the road when the lorry plying from Udupi to Calicut hit him. When he lost his balance and fell, his right hand came under the rear wheel of the lorry.
Accidents in Uchila have increased these days. The 108 ambulance does not arrive when called. However, Mulooru Sunni Center ambulance arrived immediately and rushed the injured to the hospital. This ambulance arrived within five minutes of the accident.
A case has been registered at Padubidri police station.
