Mangaluru, May 12: In tune with the state's trend in SSLC result, girls have outsmarted boys in Dakshina Kannada district. Swati, a student of Indraprasta Vidyalaya in Uppinangady, Puttur taluk, has bagged second rank in the state with 622 marks.

Swati is the daughter of Chidanand G Shastri and Shalini K couple from Bandaru village, Beltangady taluk. Her parents are agriculturists. Her elder sister, Preethi, had scored 602 marks in SSLC some years ago, and is presently pursing medical education. Swati went to school to bus, concentrated on what the teachers taught, and regularly studied. She did not put any additional efforts to score high, and had not expected to get second rank, family sources said. Swati plans to pursue science subjects by joining Vivekananda College, Puttur.
Namrata, a student of Sudana English Medium School in Puttur has secured third rank with 621 marks.
The district boasts of several high-scoring girls, like Aparna Bhat, a student of Vittal Jaycees high school, who scored 619 marks.
Shreyas
In Udupi district, Shreyas M Shetty of Sandipan English Medium School stood first, with a total of 620 out of 625. He is the son of Prema and Manjunath Shetty of Heroor. Mahalaxmi from Kunjibettu Udupi T A Pai English Medium high school has got 619 marks, while Sahana Acharya G of the same school has got 98.4 percent marks.
In Bhatkal, Suaiba Momin of Anandashram Convent school top scored with 619 marks (99.04 percent), while Aysha of Naunihal school came second with 98.56 percent.
