Udupi, May 13: Drivers of two cars, a Qualis with Maharashtra registration number, and the other, a new car that is yet to be registered, intercepted an express bus that was moving to Mangaluru from the town, and pelted stones at the bus driver. The incident occurred on national highway 66 at Pangala near Katapadi on Tuesday May 12 afternoon.
In the incident, the window glass of Mookambika express bus by the side of the driver was shattered. The driver and a boy sitting behind him suffered minor injuries.
After pelting stones, the drivers tried to make good their escape, sensing that people were gathering around and they might face trouble. However, the people stopped them and informed Kaup police. Kaup police came to Pangala and took into custody both the cars and the bus. Due to the incident, vehicles made a long queue on both sides of Pangala for about 30 minutes before policemen came and cleared the road. As smaller vehicles tried to sneak through the stranded vehicles, policemen faced problems in easing the traffic. Locals worked with them to handle the situation.
It is said that the car drivers were angry that the bus driver did not allow them to overtake the bus. One of the drivers of the cars suffered minor injury to his hand in this incident. After the policemen brought people from both sides to the station and held talks, both the parties agreed for truce and left without registering any case, it is gathered.
