Mysore, Mar 28: The garden city of Mysore is free from terrorists and there is no terror threat now, said Police Commissioner Praveen Sood.
He was speaking at an interaction programme with officials at Lava-Kusha Park in Kuvempunagar jointly organized by Aniketana Youth Club and Suryodaya Association.
Replying to a query from ACICM Convener M. Lakshmana about how safe the citizens' life in Mysore was, which was a haven for terrorists, Sood said that none had dreamt of terrorists' presence in Mysore. "But we nabbed them. We don't want to cause panic. Not only in Mysore, there was a need to give protection to villages also," he said.
Answering to another question from Lakshmana on draft proposal of Traffic system, reckless driving of auto drivers, ring road robbery and footpath eviction, Sood said MATF and ACICM had prepared a draft on traffic reforms. He said he will take steps to curb robberies on ring road.
Sood said that eviction of footpath encroachment was not easy. It was a social problem. "Though we can take action under the relevant Act 133, we are still unable to clear even a single footpath," he added.
There will be lot of pressure on Police if they try to clear the footpath when the merchants, rich and influential and vehicle owners use them as parking lot, Sood added thus pleading his helplessness in tackling the menace.
On water scarcity, Corporation Commissioner said that 1.5 MGD water will be supplied to city from Melapura. Water will be supplied through 16 borewells with 26 overhead tanks, he said.
