Chikkamagaluru, May 11: A college student from the town ended her life by consuming poison reportedly at the behest of her lover. On the allegation that her lover had forced her to consume poison, and encouraged her to commit suicide, the police arrested him later.
Ayesha Mariam (18), daughter of Basheer Ahmed from Kalludoddi here, who was a first year degree student of IDSG College, committed suicide on Saturday. Reportedly, Ayesha was in love with Salman (22), son of Basha living in the same extension, since the last six months. The girl's family, which came to know about this affairand disapproved it, summoned Salman, and advised him against continuing with his closeness with Ayesha. Still, Salman continued his intimacy with the girl, it is gathered.
In the recent past, Ayesha's engagement ceremony with a relative was held. On Saturday, she left home on the pretext of visiting the post office, and died by that evening. It is said that Salman forcibly took her to Bababudangiri hill, and told her that the best option would be to commit suicide together, as their marriage has been rendered impossible because of the stubbornness of her family. Allegedly, he provided poison to the girl to consume, but opted not to consume it himself, and thereafter admitted her into the hospital.
Before the hospital doctors could do anything to revive her, Ayesha had died. On the basis of a complaint filed by the girl's father, the policemen have registered a case and arrested Salman.
