Bantwal, May 6: “Extra sites have been approved for poor and homeless people under Basava Jayanti project. As per the decision in gram panchayat meeting, the eligible people have to be selected. The people’s representative and officials should work in order to make the facilities approved by the government reach the needy”, said minister of forests, B Ramanath Rai.
Minister Rai was speaking after receiving petitions from the villagers at Punjalkatte gram panchayat office in Bantwal taluk on Wednesday, May 6.
“The projects approved by C M Siddaramaiah in favour of the poor are successful and are being appreciated by people. The rice being supplied to the poor should be distributed to the poor and not sold”, he further said.
A memorandum, consisting of several requests, was submitted to minister by Rajendra K V on behalf of the people. The memorandum includes request for the construction of Dugamarugudde-Kadabettu road, Daikinakatte-Porimelu road, Daikinakatte Ninyary road, Kutthila-Kanchikodi road, Manchagudde road, scheduled caste colony road, Nayanadu-Kallabettu road development, Nayanadu-Pelatthakatte approach road, construction of community hall for Durgaparameshwari temple, inclusion of Pilathabettu gram panchayat in Suvarna Gram panchayat, Hi Mast light at Moorje and Nayanadu market premises, public borewell at Nayanadi and others.
People’s representatives also informed minister Rai that KSRTC buses do not ply on time in the mornings and evenings during peak hours between Mangaluru and Dharmasthala.
The minister contacted the Dharmasthala KSRTC officials immediately and asked them to run buses properly during peak hours.
Responding to a request, he informed that he has already decided to upgrade the health centre.
Taluk panchayat member B Padmashekar Jain, Ramesh Kudumeru, Akrama Sakrama committee president K Mayilappa Salian, former trustee of Sri Kshetra Karinja P Jinaraja Ariga, Zilla panchayat engineering division engineer Krishna, B H Khader, Village accountant Kumar and Gram panchayat members were present.
Panchayat official Dharmapal Poojary welcomed and proposed vote of thanks.
