Bantwal, May 6: A car hit two electric street poles and knocked one of them down at Vagga of Kavalapadooru gram on Wednesday, May 6, damaging them completely.
The car was plying from Punjalkatte to B C Road. The incident occurred in front of the telephone exchange office here. Both the electric poles were broken due to the impact. One of the poles was found hanging with the support of the cable wire. As both the poles were broken, there was a risk of cables falling on the road.
The front portion of the car was damaged and the driver of the car fled with the car from the accident scene. The locals immediately informed the Mescom officials and averted any further danger.
The radiator of the car was damaged in the impact and the driver left the car beside the road at Vagga and fled. He had removed the number plate of the car while fleeing.
Later, he was traced down by Rangaswamy, a junior engineer of Mescom. The cost of replacing the poles is expected to be Rs 40 thousands.
Rangaswamy informed that the driver of the car has agreed to bear the cost of poles.
