Jordanian Prince Ali to remain in FIFA presidential race

Madrid, May 5 (IANS): Jordanian Prince Ali bin al-Hussein confirmed on Tuesday that he would continue his bid in the FIFA presidential race in light of the "support and positive responses" received by him from sports federations in the various countries he visited.

"I will continue in the race until the end," al-Hussein, president of the Jordanian Football Association and FIFA vice president, said, reports Efe.

The Jordanian prince will go up against current Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) president Sepp Blatter, Portuguese former football player Luis Figo and Royal Dutch Football Association president Michael Van Praag in the election on May 29.

The prince's statement came after comments on social media about the possibility that the three aspiring candidates would consider electing a single challenger to compete against the incumbent Sepp Blatter.
