Doha, May 3: Karnataka-based organizations felicitated former petroleum minister of India and former chief minister of Karnataka Dr M Veerappa Moily in a befitting ceremony organized at Radisson Blu Hotel, Doha on Friday May 1.
Karnataka-based organizations like Karnataka Sangha Qatar, Mangalore Cricket Club, Karnataka Muslim Cultural Association, South Karnataka Muslim Welfare Association, Tulu Koota Qatar, Bunts Qatar and Billava Sangha Qatar together came under one umbrella to honour the former minister for his lifetime achievements in social service and literature.
Host of the evening, former president of MCC Sunil D’Silva started the proceedings, followed by welcome address by MCC president Norbert Corda. Richard D’Souza read out the profile of Veerappa Moily, after which he was felicitated with shawl and memento.
KSQ president Deepak Shetty wished the former minister on behalf of all Karnataka-based organizations in Qatar.
Acknowledging the honour, Dr Veerappa Moily shared his life experiences and advised everyone to live with hope. He thanked all the organizations for felicitating him.
Malathi Moily, UAE-based philanthropist Ronald Colaco, Jean Colaco, Daijiworld founder and editor-in-chief Walter Nandalike, KSQ president Deepak Shetty, Tulu Koota Qatar vice-president Prakash Rao, KMCA president Niyaz Ahmed, SKMWA Abdul Majeed, Abdulla Monu, Bunts Qatar president Prakash Chandra Ajila, Billava Sangha president Divakar Poojary and office-bearers of organizations were present on the occasion.
Later in the evening, at the same venue, Karnataka sports minister Abhachandra Jain and MLC Ivan D'Souza were honoured by the organizations for their contribution to society.
The ministers were in Qatar on personal visits.
