Mangaluru, May 2: Pandeshwar station police inspector, Dinkar Shetty, along with his team, succeeded in arresting a person, who has been accused of stealing gold jewellery from marriage halls in the city during weddings.
The arrested person is Prajwal Gowda (27), who hails from Gandhinagar Sullia, but presently stays in a rented house in Nandanapura in Akash Bhavan here. A golden necklace with pendant, a golden bangle, and a pair of ear lobes, totally weighing 66.54 grams and valued at Rs 1.51 lac, were seized from his possession.
After he was tipped off about the movement of a suspicious-looking person around the cricket pavilion of Nehru Maidan here, Shetty went there. During the questioning, the man in question confessed that he had committed theft of gold ornaments. He reportedly confessed to have stolen the above jewellery during the wedding ceremony organized at Bendorewell church hall during February this year.
The said operation was conducted under the directions of district superintendent of police, Murugan, deputy commissioner of police, Vishnuvardhan, and assistant commissioner of police, Kalyan Shetty, by inspector, Dinkar Shetty and police sub-inspector, Muhammed Shariff.
